Kitsquad – donate your second hand adventure gear
Giving second hand adventure gear a new purpose.
Giving second-hand adventure gear a new purpose. Donated gear is passed onto low-income individuals to get them outdoors. Low income shouldn't be a barrier to having adventures
Set up at the beginning of 2019, the aims are simply to supply low-income individuals with donated second-hand adventure gear that will enable them to get outdoors.
The idea for this scheme came from the kit lists used for the DofE and scouting expeditions my kids were completing. We are a low income family, though being outdoors is what we do, so we luckily had the gear already. It made me realise that many people may well be missing out on the physical and mental benefits of being in the great outdoors simply due to being unable to afford the correct gear that would allow them to safely and comfortably.
This is how Kitsquad was born.
We are big on recycling and reusing second-hand gear in our family. Admittedly, finances do come into this, but also because environmentally, the benefits of recycling are well documented. It's amazing how much gear people have that doesn't get used!
How it works:
If you have adventure gear that you would like to donate, please contact me directly and we'll arrange to get it here.
Once the gear arrives, its checked, cleaned and re-proofed if necessary and logged.
If you are a low-income individual who needs gear, get in touch and tell use what you need and we'll take it from there
It really is as simple as that, without the incredible donations we receive, this scheme wouldn't work.
Who are the beneficiaries:
So far, we have supplied many people with the most awesome second-hand gear. These include getting a lady the right gear to complete a charity hike up Kilimanjaro, getting a family out wild camping, kitting out a family with hiking boots and rucksacks for walks in the countryside and providing bike packing equipment for a multiday biking trip.
