The Peak Way – Explore 155 miles of stunning landscape
Your hiking adventure through the stunning Peak District
Explore 155 miles of stunning landscape, predominantly in the Peak District, on this NEW Long Distance Walking Route.
The new Long Distance Route starts and finishes in Stockport which is just a few miles outside the Peak District National Park. Stockport has local, national and international links and so this start and finish point is a huge benefit for walkers from throughout the UK and overseas. This will also help to reduce the environmental impact on the Peak District which is currently a major issue.
The route has been carefully planned to include some of the best views in the Peak District and features gritstone edges and moorland, beautiful dales, many historical features, picturesque villages, country pubs and unique places to enjoy a snack or a meal. Another great advantage is that there is a range of accommodation at, or close to, the start and finish points for each section.
This Long-Distance Walking Route is a walk of contrasts. Starting in Stockport, just a few miles outside the Peak District National Park, you will immediately find yourself in lovely countryside. You will soon be in the area known as the Dark Peak which is the higher and wilder part of the Peak District characterised by vast areas of rugged heather moorland, populated with dark gritstone. The views of the surrounding landscape are stunning.
The White Peak is known for its gently rolling limestone plateau, divided by limestone dales which are often steep-sided, whilst in other places the dales are shallower. You will find clear limestone rivers and streams and colourful hay meadows nestled between dry stone walls. Then there are the picturesque villages and quaint hamlets. You will find that walking in the White Peak is very different than that of the Dark Peak, but equally stunning for its sheer beauty.
