Lancombe Country Cottages & Lodges's mission is to give you everything you could wish for in a self-catering UK break. For us, there are four key ways in which we do this for you, which include the wonderful setting of Lancombe, the beautiful accommodation, the extensive leisure facilities and of course, superb hospitality.
Wonderful Setting
Our home and your ‘home from home’ is situated in a beautiful little Hamlet in between two wonderful and friendly villages, Cattistock and Maiden Newton. It’s an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in West Dorset, and it’s also known as Thomas Hardy Country.
Location is a very important consideration for your holiday. Lancombe is not only set in stunning and vast grounds, but is perfectly placed to be a coastal cottages get-away, being only a short drive to the World Heritage Jurassic Coast, many tourist attractions and surrounded by incredible scenery. There’s plenty to do; from a visit to Westbay (home of TV drama Broadchurch); a stroll around Durdle Door or Lyme Regis; to the child-pleasing destinations such as Monkey World, Abbotsbury Swannery, Farmer Palmers (where our Guest get a discount) or the Dinosaur Museum.
Beautiful Accommodation

Lancombe’s well-equipped self-catering holiday accommodation is set within the glorious Lancombe grounds. Each is tastefully decorated, beautifully maintained and offers true comfort and relaxation.
All holiday accommodation is close to the onsite facilities, and each is well-equipped with the everyday essentials; so all you need to bring are your personal belongings, swimwear, a good book and your culinary delights. Leave the rest to us!
COTTAGES
Lancombe has six stunning Dorset holiday cottages that overlook the walled and landscaped courtyard from one side, and the woodland area on the other. Each is idyllic, exhibiting traditional flint and brick. The holiday cottages vary in size, meaning there is something to suit all needs, whether a couple; a small group; or a family.
Inside of each of the Dorset holiday cottages, you will find quality, comfort and warmth. The downstairs of each cottage offers open-plan, bright living space, with a lounge, a well-equipped kitchen and a dining area. Upstairs, the sleeping space and bathroom can be found, complete with all linen you require.
Each holiday cottage benefits from a small patio area, to take in the views with an early morning cuppa, or an evening tipple.
LODGES
There are three holiday lodges available and each is exquisitely decorated and furnished, and has a bright, spacious and airy ambience.
All Lodges are on one level, and have an open plan lounge, kitchen and dining area; plus bathroom and sleeping space. They also boast a sizeable decked terrace, with extraordinary views of the countryside and cattle to enjoy. Holiday lodges in Dorset don’t get much better than this!
Extensive Leisure Facilities
More practically, if you’ve had a messy day of sand or mud, there are laundry facilities for you to use too!
Superb Hospitality
We purchased Lancombe at the very end of 2013 and since that time, have been having an absolute blast in putting our stamp on it. We have made so many improvements it’s led us to winning numerous Tourism Awards (including for Self Catering and Dog-Friendly Business of the Year), but most importantly, in 2019 we were entered into the prestigious Trip Advisor Hall of Fame in 2019. Why is this the most important award you ask? Because this is based on our wonderful Guest’s reviews.
We are so lucky to have met such fabulous humans and dogs, that there really is no better place to be, and that’s why so many Guests return to us, year after year (sometimes fitting in another cheeky break or two, just to get their Lancombe fix).
For us, it’s all about the hospitality and breadth of wonderful accommodation and facilities. If you feel like Lancombe breathes energy, fun and laughter, with a touch of relaxation thrown in for good measure, then we’ve done our job. Nothing is too much trouble, and we encourage guests to speak with us if there’s anything we can do to enhance their stay.
